Allow rest, alleviate pain, achieve balance, awake healing

Healing is more than medicine,

it’s an art

Acupuncture creates movement and resolves stagnation wherever it is needed in the body. Most patients experience improvement and relief within 3-6 treatments. Although, many choose to return for ‘maintenance’ treatments, to check in, assist in any further needed rebalancing and to help prevent any further issues: prevention is better than cure.

Acupuncture is a safe, natural and effective alternative to taking long term painkillers and has the potential to complement and support other prescribed courses of treatment.

about acupuncture

Holistic pain treatment

Many people arrive at acupuncture when they have reached their limit of taking daily painkillers, when other pain treatments haven’t worked for them, or when the time comes that they can no longer bear the accumulated impact on their life.

Often, long lived with pain conditions begin to cause stress, depression and anxiety; increasingly inhibiting your ability to do the things you love. After a while, it’s not just about the pain anymore, it is far further reaching. This is why holistic treatment is so important. Treating only one aspect of a persons pain picture ignores and neglects the rest. Acupuncture sees the whole picture. It is not just about relieving physical pain, but bringing balance to the entire being.

Pain can be the product of an acute impact or injury.

In these cases, targeted treatment to the local area may speed repair. Often, however, the experience of physical pain is found to have an associated emotional component. Emotional stress influences the way we hold ourselves, the way we stand and the way we breath. This, in turn, affects the tension in the muscles. You simply cannot have an emotional experience without a physiological response. With this in mind; acupuncture considers the root of the problem as well as the problem itself.

Have you become used to a level of discomfort and now consider it normal?

Many do, whether it be pain, impaired mobility, digestive abnormalities, disturbed moods or anything else. It doesn’t have to be normal, it doesn’t have to stay that way.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Appreciation

“The moment I stepped into Anna Marie’s treatment room I felt a calmness surrounding me. She has styled the therapy room in a manner that made me feel comfortable, peaceful and confident. I had a wonderful treatment which involved me lying on a specialised heated thermogem mat, which is packed with tourmaline, amethyst and jade crystals (I was told that this enhances the acupuncture and it most certainly did for me). The treatment was also complimented by the use of sound therapy. The whole experience was amazing. As well as feeling completely relaxed I also found a very substantial reduction in my ailment, which I noticed within five days. I have recommended her to a number of my friends and they have all reported positive results.”

Mary Ann Gimson

“I had my first acupuncture appointment with Anna-Marie 2 months ago it was absolutely amazing. The very warm welcome I got was so lovely and quickly put me at ease. During the treatment I felt very relaxed and calm and not once did I feel the needles go in, Anna-Marie was so gentle. After the treatment I felt absolutely amazing and so relaxed I felt like I had been floating. There was no rush to get up and go and Anna-Marie couldn’t have been kinder. The benefits I am seeing from her treatment are incredible and I can’t recommend her enough she is amazing and I’m looking forward to having more treatments.”

Nikki Latos

“I came to see Anna-Marie to improve my sleeping and for general good health. I was really impressed with the treatment room, as it was a very calming, quiet and private space for the treatment. Anna-Marie was very attentive and had a fantastic technique for diagnosing and understanding how to treat me. She provided a very relaxing and gentle treatment that worked perfectly as I felt much more refreshed and alert afterwards, and I have been sleeping much better since the treatment. I am booked in to attend again regularly moving forwards. I would recommend her to anyone.”

Acupuncture FAQs

Below are some of the questions most often asked about acupuncture. If your question is not answered here, or not covered in enough detail; please don’t hesitate to contact Anna-Marie and find out how acupuncture may be able to help you.

This is entirely dependant on the individual. Treatment has the potential to produce rapid results, however, usually a course of treatment is required. Results and improvements are commonly seen within 3-6 weekly, or fortnightly sessions. Many then choose to return for ‘maintenance’ treatments, assisting in any further needed rebalancing and to help prevent any further issues: prevention is better than cure.

In short, no. The needles used are the same but that is where the similarity ends. The techniques and diagnostic tools used are very different. Acupuncture is a holistic form of treatment, treating the whole person, as opposed to the focus being the painful elbow or shoulder, or whatever else the manifestation of your symptoms might be. Case histories taken and examinations made are more comprehensive. Diagnosis is based on several factors, including the appearance of your tongue (colour, size, shape, coating), the quality of your pulses in your wrists and your mental and physical wellbeing. Western acupuncture and dry needling, commonly practised by osteopaths, GPs and chiropractors, are very symptom targeted. Consequently, the needling techniques and the needling sites used are also very different.

The acupuncture profession is not regulated, allowing anyone to call themselves an acupuncturist.
When choosing a therapist it is important to make sure that your chosen practitioner is fully qualified, insured, registered with a recognised accreditation body and understands the nature of any pre-existing medical conditions you may have.

Very thin – only slightly thicker than a human hair, ranging from 1 to 3 inches in length.

The insertion of the needles often causes little or no discomfort. A localised ache may be felt when the acupuncture point is reached. Any discomfort experienced is short lived and often followed by a deep sense of relaxation.

The blood donor service does not accept blood from anyone who has had acupuncture within four months preceding donation. This precaution is enforced as there is no current regulation of the acupuncture profession and prevents any small risk of spreading hepatitis; which could become an issue if correct hygiene procedures are not followed and disposable needles are not used.

Anna-Marie is available for appointment bookings on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between the hours of 13.00 and 19.00.
